The PC Engine CD-ROM² is an expansion for NEC’s PC Engine console, enabling it to play CD-based games in addition to the standard HuCards. Released in 1988, it marked one of the earliest uses of CDs in gaming, providing enhanced storage capacity for detailed graphics, music, and video. This was a major innovation at the time, leading to a rich library of titles, some of which became iconic like Rondo of Blood.
